Adopting a Puppy

Now that you have learned about our program, here is a rundown of the adoption process:

1. Submit Application

If you are ready to apply for puppy adoption, simply fill out and submit the online application. You will receive a reply by email. If we feel you are a good fit for our puppies and our program you can move to the next step by joining the waitlist.

2. Make Deposit

Once the application is approved, you will be given the opportunity to submit your deposit and join our puppy waitlist. We maintain a master waitlist for all upcoming and future litters. A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to join this list. The order of the waitlist is determined by the order of deposits received. Deposits are transferable to any current or upcoming litters. A deposit is only refundable if we are unable to provide a puppy. The deposit goes toward the total cost of the puppy. 

3. Join a Litter List

After a litter of puppies arrives, we create litter specific waitlists by emailing the first families on the master list and giving them the option to join the litter list. When you receive an invitation to join a litter list, you may choose to join or opt to remain on the master list for a future litter. You will not lose your position on the master list. When someone chooses to remain on the master list this gives the next family in line the opportunity to join the litter list and so on. Once you have joined a litter list, you will receive regular updates and pictures of the litter. Gingerich Goldens reserves the rights to 1st & 2nd pick of any litter.

4. Prepare for your Puppy

Now that you are on a litter list, you will want to begin preparations to bring your puppy home. Some things to think about are: Getting your house ready for a puppy, finding a vet for puppy care, puppy food and supplies and of course a plan for puppy training.

5. Browse Puppy Evaluations

As stated on our program page, the puppies receive temperament testing at 7 weeks age. We then document the scores for each puppy and send summaries and pictures to the waitlist where they can begin browsing through them and making their top three choices. You are welcome to choose a puppy by gender, although we recommend not letting that be your sole determination but to choose by personality and best fit.

6. Choose Your Puppy!

Puppy Adoption Day happens at around 8 weeks of age on site. Beginning at the top of the list, each family has a 30 minute time slot to interact with and choose the puppy that is just right for them. For those who cannot make it to adoption day and need to pick up on a later date, they will need to choose their puppy by video in their allotted time slot. 

7. Take Your Puppy Home!!

This is the moment you’ve been waiting for! After making your selection, all there is left to do is sign the paperwork, pay the balance and go home with your new family member. Your puppy will come with a blanket, toy, leash & collar (if needed) in a puppy bag, Also included is the AKC certificate, health certificate and health records.
